Information You Provide

Scan Bite processes barcodes, ingredient text, manual product details, and food chat questions to provide results. Ingredient photos are processed for text recognition and are not intentionally saved by the app.

On-Device Processing

Ingredient OCR, food chat replies, scoring rules, diet classification, and non-food checks run on your device where supported. Chat questions are not sent to a cloud AI service.

Product Lookups

Barcode and product search requests may be sent to Open Food Facts or USDA FoodData Central. Those services process requests under their own privacy policies.

Firebase

Firebase Analytics may receive app usage events, Firebase Crashlytics may receive diagnostic crash information, and Firebase Remote Config provides app settings. We do not intentionally include ingredient photos, chat text, or health details in Analytics events.

Advertising

Scan Bite shows ads through Google AdMob to support free access. AdMob and its partners may use your device's advertising identifier and related data to show and measure ads. On iOS, you will be asked for permission to allow tracking; you can allow or deny this, and change your choice later in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Denying tracking still allows ads to show, but they may be less personalized.

Camera and Location

Camera access is used for barcode and ingredient scanning. If shopping reminders are enabled, location is used to decide when a local reminder may be useful. The app does not intentionally upload precise location to its product databases.

Local Storage

Recent products, cached lookup results, and your diet preference may be stored on your device to improve speed and personalize results. Removing the app removes its local app data.

Your Choices

You can deny camera, location, or notification permissions in iOS Settings. Some related features will not work without those permissions.
